Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), the Ooni of Ife, has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for being unwilling to fix bad roads in his domain, Ile-Ife, while also refusing to allow private citizens to rehabilitate them.

“I’m not sure what we did in Ife to deserve the bad road network that surrounds us.” It’s not enough to simply refer to Ife as the source. Mr Ogunwusi reasoned, “This city deserves to be treated as the true source of humanity that it is.” “It’s outrageous that the same government that refuses to fix our roads also denies us access to do what we can do on our own.” We’ve only heard that it’s a government road, so we’ll have to wait.”

The monarch made the announcement on Sunday at the Odo-Ogbe market (Oja Tuntun) in Ile-Ife, where a 700-meter road was inaugurated. Babajide Omoworare, the Ile-Ife-born Senior Special Assistant to the President on Legislative Matters (Senate), facilitated the road project.

“We are aware that the government cannot do it alone,” Mr Ogunwusi continued, “so we want them to set up a scheme, such as a form of concession on all major roads in Ile-Ife.” We’d look for capable individuals in the community who would fix the road and give them credit for the job. It’s the same thing.”

He pleaded with the state and federal governments to allow private citizens to repair roads that the government could not.

Allow the government to give us that chance and see how we perform. The Ooni went on to say, “We can now replicate it in other communities across the country.” “On all major roads in Ife, we are willing and able to do that.” All we need is some kind of concession in this area.

The monarch described the politician as a committed son of the town on the Odo-Ogbe market road, which was facilitated by the president’s aide, and urged his political contemporaries to imitate his good gestures and avoid unhealthy rivalry.

“I wish to authoritatively confirm to you that major projects, particularly road works, will be carried out in Ife in the newly presented budget by President Muhammadu Buhari. I’m familiar with the Mayfair, Lagere, Iremo, and Moore roads, to name a few.” Mr Omoworare said.
