Tordue Henry Salem, a Vanguard reporter, was found dead 29 days after going missing in Abuja.

Vanguard confirmed his death on Thursday, November 11th, but the circumstances surrounding the recovery of his remains are still unknown as of this writing.

Salem, who was covering the House of Representatives at the time, was last seen between the hours of 8 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, after he had left work, according to a source.

He was said to have gotten out of a cab at a Total gas station near the Force headquarters and gone to B.J.’s garden with a female relative.

Following that, he is said to have flagged down a cab for the lady who had left ahead of him, informing her that he was going to Area 8, Garki. He was never seen again until his body was discovered on Thursday.

The next day, an alarm was raised about his mysterious disappearance, and the matter was referred to the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, on October 16, 2021.

Efforts by his colleagues, relatives, and security operatives to track him down since then have been fruitless.

Jessica, Salem’s sister, revealed that his daughter has been wondering why her father hasn’t called to speak with her.

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) stormed the Nigeria Police Force’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 25, to protest the missing reporter.

On Tuesday, November 9, the House of Representatives requested that security agencies investigate the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s disappearance and do everything possible to secure his release.

Some arrests were reportedly made, according to Vanguard. One of them was a man who had been accused of attempting to extort Salem’s family.

On October 26, 2021, the suspect, identified as Prince Enyenihi, 25, contacted Mrs Salem via text message with a hidden number, requesting N100 million in ransom for her husband’s release.

“If you don’t pay, Tordue will be killed in seven days,” the text message said. Call this number for more information.” An account number was also included in the text message.
