A 36-year-old man, Akanro Bode, and his 11-year-old son have been charged with stealing yam tubers worth N250,000 in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants, who live in Ado-Ajebamidele Ekiti’s Area, are accused of conspiracy and stealing.

The defendants committed the act on October 22 at about 04.00 hrs at Channel 8 Ajebamidele Area in Ado-Ekiti, according to the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale.

According to Akinwale, the defendants both stole two bags of yam tubers and seedlings valued N250,000 from one Mr Bolarinwa Omotayo.

He further claimed the defendants stole some yam tubers and a bunch of plantains worth N250,000 from Mr Arowosade Idowu.

He said the offense was in violation of Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor requested that the case be adjourned so that he may review the case file and introduce his witnesses.

The defendants entered not guilty pleas in response to the charge.

Mr Stephen Ademuagun, their lawyer, pleaded with the court to give his clients bail in the most generous terms possible.

Mr Michael Faola, the Chief Magistrate, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 apiece, with one surety in the same amount.

He postponed the hearing until November 18th.
