On Thursday, tensions rose in the Ile-Iwe area of Lagos Command after a police officer from Meiran Division fatally stabbed a Keke rider known as Eleyele.

Mr Ibrahim was stabbed by a cop named Olu for refusing to give him a N100 bribe, according to reports.

“Because of money, a police officer stabbed a (Keke) NAPEP rider, and as a result, some tricycle operators have halted commercial operations and threatened retaliation,” a source said.

The tricycle riders have mobilized themselves to the scene, according to another source, and have vowed to retaliate.

When contacted, Toyosi Shokunbi, the DPO of Meiran Division, declined to comment.

However, Adekunle Ajisebutu, a spokesman for the Lagos police command, confirmed the incident but said he had not yet been briefed.

“I’m aware of the situation, but I’m still waiting for more information,” Mr Ajisebutu said.
